Let’s think of something to do while we’re waiting….

I’ve had a song running through  my head this morning from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. Do you remember that song Mr. Rogers used to sing about waiting? No? Click on the song title below. It’ll take you to PBS kids Mr Rogers Neighborhood where you can play the song for a refresher.

Let’s Think of Something to do While We’re Waiting

Now you can listen to it while you read the rest of this post 🙂

It’s true for probably every parent out there. You never truly get a moment alone when you have young children in the house. Not even in the bathroom. They could be contented playing all by themselves…until you close the bathroom door. Then it’s as if the house is about to burn down and they are urgently calling your name, knocking constantly on the door, and saying your name repeatedly until you give an answer. Over the years, I’ve learned it’s best if you remember to lock the door so they can’t barge in on you and pretend you’re not there. That usually buys me about a minute.

Or you could learn the words to Mr. Roger’s song and annoy them by singing it while they stand outside the bathroom door. Or every time you hear the words “I’m bored!” I’m sure your kids would just love that! I know mine would. Or not.  But it might just get them to leave the room so they wouldn’t have to hear it anymore and you could have a moment’s peace to yourself. Not that I would actually do that. 🙂

Little Z (who will be 4 at the end of January) is good at finding things to keep herself busy when Mom or Dad are behind closed doors. She likes to play, “Mommy, can you see my fingers?” or “Daddy, can you see my toes?” or my personal favorite, “Mommy, I can see you!”

I’m guessing she decided that those were getting a little old. So she came up with this:

She’s really quite bright to think of something to do specific for…herself

This is, after all, the girl who has been obsessed with the bubble wrap app on mommy’s iPhone since she was 18 mos. old.

And besides, let’s be honest. Who doesn’t secretly love popping bubble wrap? I know I do. But let’s just keep that between us, okay?
